Truck driver set to face court over fatal crash at Darlington Point

A truck driver has been charged and had his licence suspended following an investigation into a fatal crash in Darlington Point earlier this month.

Police said emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Darlington Point after reports of the collision about 3:30 pm.

On arrival, emergency services found a car and a truck, which was carrying fruit and vegetables, destroyed by fire.

The 24-year-old male driver of the car died at the scene, while the 38-year-old truck driver was not injured and was taken to Griffith Hospital for mandatory testing.

Murrumbidgee Police District officers established a crime scene and began an investigation into the crash.

Following extensive inquiries, the truck driver was arrested at Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged on 15 September with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday, 1 November.
