Sturt Highway reopens after fatal crash between car and truck

A man has died following a horror collision involving a car and truck at Darlington Point yesterday afternoon (4 September).

Police said emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway at Darlington Point after reports of the collision about 3:30 pm.

On arrival, emergency services found the car and a truck, which was carrying fruit and vegetables, destroyed in the flames.

The car driver had died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The male truck driver was uninjured and taken to Griffith Hospital for mandatory testing.

Murrumbidgee Police District officers established a crime scene and began an investigation into the crash.

Traffic was heavily impacted, and traffic diversions were in place while motorists were urged to avoid the area.

The highway reopened in both directions at 5:05 am this morning with a 40km/h speed limit in place.
