Griffith Police call for information after man's death

Police are appealing for public assistance as they look into the death of a man in Griffith.

Police were told a 79-year-old man was involved in an altercation with another man on Yambil Street at Griffith, before he was allegedly pushed to the ground at around 8:30 am on Monday 13 June.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Griffith Base Hospital.

He was then transferred to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for further treatment the following day.

The man died in hospital on Monday 25 July 2022.

While the man was injured during the alleged altercation, it’s not known if those injuries resulted in the man’s death.

The other man involved in the incident has been identified and is assisting police with the investigation.

Detectives from Murrumbidgee Police District have established Strike Force Toxteth as they attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the man’s later death.

Those inquiries will also form part of the investigators’ brief for the Coroner.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident on Yambil Street, or the events surrounding the altercation to contact investigators.
