Elderly female passenger dies after single-vehicle crash at Brockelsby

A woman believed to be in her 80s has died after an SUV in which she was a passenger crashed into a tree.

Police said emergency services were called to Kywong-Howlong Road, Brockelsby, about 60 km south of Henty following reports of a single-vehicle crash around 11:30 am on Tuesday (19 September).

Officers attached to Murray River Police District attended and found the rear female passenger of the SUV had died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the front passenger, a 71-year-old woman, before airlifting her to Alfred Hospital in a critical condition while the driver, a 70-year-old man, was taken to Albury Base Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Kywong-Howlong Road has been closed between Brockelsby and Walbundrie for the duration of the investigation.

Late this afternoon, NSW Police reported local diversions are in place and motorists are urged to monitor live traffic for traffic updates.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
