Woman arrested on Riverina Highway after man found with severe burns

Police have charged a woman after a man was found with life-threatening burns near Albury.

Police said NSW Ambulance paramedics responded to reports a man had suffered burns at a residence in Russell Street, Howlong, 30 km north-west of Albury, at about 5:30 am on 7 January.

The 23-year-old man was taken to Albury Hospital before being airlifted to Prince Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where he remains in an induced coma.

Following inquiries by Murray River Police District detectives, a 22-year-old woman was arrested on the Riverina Highway at Howlong as she travelled towards Albury in a motor vehicle.

She was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with burning or maiming a person by using corrosive fluid. She was released on conditional bail to appear at Albury Local Court on Wednesday, 21 February.
