Detectives appeal for information after man sustains severe burns

A Riverina man was airlifted to Melbourne Hospital and placed in an induced coma after sustaining significant burns over the weekend.

Police said NSW Ambulance paramedics responded to reports a man had suffered burns at a residence in Russell Street, Howlong, 30 km northwest of Albury at about 5:00 am on Sunday (7 January).

The 23-year-old man was taken to Albury Hospital before being airlifted to Prince Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where he remains in an induced coma.

Detectives attached to Murray River Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone with information concerning the incident to contact Albury Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
