A 90-year-old man has been airlifted to Melbourne in a critical condition after he was struck by a ute in Deniliquin.

Police said emergency services were called to Davidson Street, Deniliquin, following reports an elderly man had been struck by a ute at about 11 am yesterday (16 January).

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the elderly pedestrian at the scene for multiple serious injuries before he was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in a critical condition.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

The 31-year-old male driver of the ute was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone with information into the incident or dashcam footage to call Murray River Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
