History and privacy are key features of this charming country property located in a small town in the Riverina. Photos: PRD Wagga Wagga.

1-5 Frederick Street in Urana has its roots in decades past.

The property started its life as buildings associated with a historic church, before being renovated and converted into a three-bedroom home.

PRD Wagga Wagga sales agent Michelle Wilcox says the result is a unique combination of heritage features and modern comforts.

“It’s the old rectory, so it used to be the accommodation for the priests,” she says.

“The maid’s quarters were a two-room house, while the priests lived in a separate building right next to it.

“Over the years, it’s become a private residence and then they attached the little maid’s quarters to the main building and created a beautiful big living space.”

Set across a block just shy of an acre in size, the property also boasts 12-foot ceilings, a butler’s pantry, a covered patio area, a water tank, two bathrooms and two parking spaces in an undercover carport.

Despite the modern features, Michelle says the heritage aspects are clear to see.

“The home has been modernised, but the original features and character of the old buildings have been kept,” she says.

Michelle says the property also offers a stunning outlook.

“You’ve got a balcony that wraps around three quarters of the house, so you can sit anywhere out the front and around the side and take in the beautiful views.

“The current owners have planted an abundance of fruit trees around the property as well.”

Urana is a quiet region of the Riverina, located half an hour from Lockhart and just over an hour from Wagga Wagga and Albury.

“This is a town where you can have a getaway and escape from a busy city,” she says.

“You can spend your days on your own property and only head out to get your milk and bread.”

Michelle says 1-5 Frederick Street is the perfect property for anyone looking for a slower pace of life.

“This property would really suit people wanting to acquire a country lifestyle or people wanting to live in a quiet environment,” she says.

“In Urana, people wave to each other in the street – it is by no means a ghost town as it has all your essentials on hand, but it just offers a quieter way of life.”

Interest in 1-5 Frederick Street has come from far and wide, Michelle says.

“I’ve had inquiries from all over Australia; I had a lady ring from Far North Queensland, which makes it a little difficult for inspections!

“A property like this would be perfect for someone looking for a home with character.”

For Michelle, 1-5 Frederick Street offers a chance for the next owner to sidestep the hustle and bustle of city living.

“If you don’t want to be confined in a two-bedroom unit, this is a property where you can relax in a beautiful home,” she says.

“It could be used for an Airbnb or as a home for a weekend away where you can relax with family.”
