Riverina Police District are calling for information from the public following a break-and-enter and fire overnight at Turvey Park Public School in Wagga Wagga.

Police said following reports of a fire, emergency services were called to the school on Halloran Street at about 2:50 am on Tuesday (18 July).

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze. However, the building was extensively damaged and declared the school non-operational.

The school was vacant at the time and there were no reports of any injuries.

Officers from The Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire and break-and-enter, which is being treated as suspicious.

Turvey Park Public School announced via its Facebook page that the school would be non-operational for students who were set to return for their first week back at school. The school also stated parents and guardians will be advised further via email.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Wagga Wagga Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
