Fire destroyed a Riverina farmhouse over the weekend.

Police said Murray River Police District officers and firefighters from Fire and Rescue and the NSW Rural Fire Service Southern Border District attended the fire in Leniston Road, Finley, about 11 pm on Sunday (14 May).

NSW RFS Southern Border Level Two Officer Shai Feuerherdt said the property was “gutted” and burned to the ground.

Officer Feuerherdt said luckily, the resident was not in the house at the time of the fire.

“We had five RFS appliances on scene and they had the fire under control by 12:30 am,” Officer Feuerherdt said.

“They were all packing up and leaving at about three o’clock this morning once it was deemed cool enough to leave.

“Police are still investigating how the actual fire was started.”
