Police hunt machete-wielding men who allegedly held up Riverina service station

Murrumbidgee police are searching for two men who allegedly held up a service station armed with a machete and fled with cigarettes and cash while the staff hid.

Officers were called to the service station on the Sturt Highway at Gillenbah, near Narrandera, following reports of an armed robbery just before 4 am on Tuesday (15 August).

Police have been told a Chrysler PT Cruiser wagon, reportedly stolen from Griffith earlier this week, with four occupants stopped for petrol.

Two men wearing dark clothes and armed with a machete got out and entered the shop, allegedly stealing two cash registers and cigarettes while staff hid.

The pair fled and returned to the Chrysler, which was last seen heading towards Narrandera.

The service station employees, two women aged 49 and 47, were not physically injured.
