Griffith man refused bail over alleged armed robbery

A Griffith man had his bail formally refused by the court following an alleged attempted armed robbery in Griffith.

Police said Shay Sibbritt allegedly entered a service station on Banna Avenue and pointed a firearm towards a staff member at about 9 pm on 20 October.

The 36-year-old allegedly threatened the worker before fleeing the store. No one was physically injured.

Officers from Murrumbidgee Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation. Following inquiries, investigators arrested the man on Animoo Avenue (Griffith) at about 10:30 am on 24 October.

Sibbritt fronted Griffith Local Court on 25 October, charged with alleged robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, possessing an unregistered, unauthorised pistol in a public place, and goods suspected stolen on premises.

Magistrate Trevor Khan formally refused his bail and set his next court appearance for 15 November.
