Man dies when car on wrong side of Hume highway collides with semi

A man has died after his car and a truck collided head-on on the Hume Highway south of Holbrook this morning, 23 September.

Officers from Murray River Police District were called to Woomargama, 15km south of Holbrook, responding to reports a car and a semi-trailer had crashed about 3 am on Friday.

Emergency services arrived to find a southbound Toyota Yaris and a northbound semi-trailer had collided head-on in the northbound lanes.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the car died at the scene. He has not been identified.

The driver of the truck escaped injury and has been taken to Albury Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

An investigation is now underway into the circumstances leading up to the crash, including why the car was on the wrong side of the highway.

Diversions are in place via the Olympic Way; however, motorists are advised to check live traffic for updates.
