BREAKING: Train derailment after collision with a truck at Old Junee

UPDATED 11:30 am: NSW Ambulance Inspector Lindel Carey confirmed that three patients were taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in stable condition following the collision between a train and grain truck on a level crossing at Old Junee.

“We arrived to find that a freight train had collided with the truck’s trailer at a level crossing, causing the train to derail,” she explained.

“We assessed three men, including the driver of the truck and two train drivers. Their injuries were minor and they were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Photos from the scene show an overturned locomotive on its side amid the twisted wreckage of the trailer.

“It’s always concerning when we’re called to incidents involving heavy vehicles. Thankfully, the train was carrying cargo and no one was seriously injured in this instance,” said Inspector Carey.

10:30 am: A hazmat team is on site to contain any possible fuel spills and SES and police are diverting traffic in both directions on the Canola Way.

Motorists are warned to proceed with caution and to expect delays.

9:30 am: A train has derailed at Old Junee after colliding with a grain truck on a level crossing.

Police, ambulance, urban and rural fire crews, as well as the volunteer rescue association are responding.

NSW Ambulance confirmed that paramedics responded to reports of an incident at about 8:45 am on the level crossing on Canola Way near Turners Lane.

At least three people were involved including the driver of the train and truck but no one is believed to be seriously injured.

It’s understood that three locomotives turned over and as many as 10 carriages have been damaged with several leaving the tracks.
