The upcoming ‘Strawberries and Cream Festival’ offers the public a true paddock to plate experience.

Bidgee Strawberries and Cream proprietors and husband and wife duo Michael and Kylie Cashen are ready to open their doors for the upcoming festival on Saturday 12 November.

Ms Cashen said the festival would include local growers, business owners, clubs and musicians.

“The day is also about teaching people what products are made from our strawberries – paddock to plate from our farm,” Ms Cashen said.

“We can’t pollinate the strawberries without our local beekeeper. Phillip Roberts from Bohemian Bees and Blooms will have a live hive and honey tasting.

“We’ll be having lamb sausages and kebabs made from Damara lambs.”

Food and drinks will be available for purchase from The Food Wagon and The Sunrise Rotary Club barbecue.

Ms Cashen said Bidgee Strawberries and Cream had collaborated with a gin-making firm from Victoria. Visitors can also meet collaborators Brogan and Simon from Brogan’s Way.

“They’ve made strawberries and cream gin, which has been really exciting,” Ms Cashen said.

From the farm cafe, visitors can indulge themselves with strawberry-themed desserts, ice cream, milkshakes, coffee, tea, and cold drinks.

Ms Cashen said Rotary was also involved in the festival and would be helping with the parking for the event and receiving money for charity.

The festival marks the start of the fifth strawberry season for Bidgee Strawberries and Cream.

The festival will also include live entertainment by local artists Troy Fisher and Jamie Way, honey tasting, a jumping castle, pony rides, face painting, large yard games, a treasure hunt and entry to the strawberry picking field (when punnets are purchased).

Bidgee Strawberries and Cream co-owner Michael Cashen said that at the beginning of each season, they got a good supply of strawberries.

“We can never predict the exact time they’ll all ripen, but we’ll have plenty of strawberries,” he said.

Mr Cashen said that with 20,000 plants, he expected to have 25 tonnes of fruit this coming season.

“From the first week of November, we’re going to be open every day of the week from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm,” he said.

“If we haven’t got strawberries, we’ve always got strawberry ice cream, sorbet, pies, milkshakes, cookies and chocolate-coated strawberries.

“We’re not a factory, there is seasonal variation, and we can’t predict the rain.”

Ms Cashen said the Strawberries and Cream Festival was taking place with the support of Wagga Wagga City Council.

The Strawberries and Cream Festival is on Saturday 12 November, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Bidgee Strawberries and Cream, Billagha Street, Wagga.

Tickets for the Strawberries and Cream Festival are: Adults $15, Children $8 (children under one are free). To purchase tickets for the festival, click here.
