Australia Day celebrations marred by ski boat collision on Murrumbidgee River

Australia Day celebrations took a distressing turn with the collision of two ski boats on the Murrumbidgee River.

Police said emergency services responded to the incident at Gogeldrie, about two kilometres from Gogeldrie Weir, near Leeton, following reports two ski boats collided about 6:45 pm on Friday (26 January).

The 53-year-old male driver of one boat, and his female passenger, 51, sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition.

The four occupants of the second boat, two 18-year-olds, a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old, were also treated at the scene by paramedics.

Murrumbidgee Police District officers also attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
