Flooding could return to parts of Wagga with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a minor flood warning for the Murrumbidgee River.
Rain is forecast from Thursday 8 September through to Sunday 11 September, with up to 25 mm expected to fall tomorrow and the possibility of a thunderstorm on Friday.
“A trough from the west of NSW is expected to bring widespread moderate rainfall, with severe thunderstorms,” a BOM spokesperson said.
“This will bring a risk of heavy falls on Thursday through the inland, shifting to the North East by Friday. This rainfall may cause flooding along rivers in parts of the North West, Central West and South West inland catchments from late Thursday, many of which are experiencing ongoing flooding due to previous rainfall in recent weeks.”
As at 2:10 pm today Wednesday 7 September, the river height of the Murrumbidgee River to Wagga was 4.5 metres and steady. This is likely to change as rain intensifies later in the week.
The Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.
The Murrumbidgee River reached a 10-year peak in early August, leading to road closures and evacuations from Wilks Park.
