Professional Factory GASGAS Rider Hayden Mellross says he lives and breathes riding and will always keep coming back for more.

Hayden is training hard for the 2022 FOX Australian Supercross Championship season finale, which will be held in Wagga Wagga in December.

Hayden said the preparation for the season finale was coming along well, and he was excited to have a big national race so close to where he grew up.

“I feel like I’m in a position right now to be fighting for the race wins,” Hayden said.

Born and raised in Young, Hayden has been riding since he was three. He moved to Florida at 15, lived there for six years, and returned to Australia in 2019 to race. His riding started as a hobby he loved and turned into an amazing career.

“Racing was something I enjoyed doing … after school, I’d ride with my mates or just ride in our backyard for fun,” he said.

“I started doing well at state and national levels and winning championships.

“It got to the point where I could see myself making a career out of it.”

Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club will play host to a world-class field of riders and the biggest Supercross track of the season for the final round of the prestigious series on December 3.

The doubleheader format will see the premier classes racing back to back and bar to bar, featuring full grids of 20 riders, concluding with the 2022 champions being crowned.

The Australian Supercross Championship series is widely regarded as the best domestic series outside of the USA.

Fans from across the country are expected to travel to Wagga, injecting valuable tourism dollars across the Riverina region.

The announcement of international competitors begins next week. They will include riders from the USA, Canada, UK, Japan and beyond, with riders determined to take the title away from Australians for the fifth straight season.

The talent of Australian contenders will be lifted, with almost 10 Australians competing in the World Supercross Championship in October and returning to Australia to compete in the doubleheader finale in Wagga.

Event manager Mark Petersen said his team couldn’t wait to bring world-class supercross racing to Wagga and the Riverina region.

“The season finale will feature a doubleheader format designed to deliver double the excitement, double the races and double the action to the fans on the biggest track of the year with a star-studded lineup of Australian and international riders.

“The support from the council and local businesses has been very welcoming. We look forward to our guests from around the world and fans from all over Australia exploring Wagga Wagga and racing on December 3.”
