Wagga Show Society is seeking young ladies to promote and represent the society as a Young Woman Wagga.

The Young Women Competition aims to find rural ambassadors for women in agriculture and out in rural communities.

The young ladies will go through personal development training, public speaking, presenting and learning how to write resumes.

Wagga Show Society volunteer and steward Kate Webster said the competition prepares young women for their tertiary education and future career pathways.

“It’s preparing young women for the workforce, giving them a platform to represent what they’re passionate about and their community,” Ms Webster said.

“I found it as a worthwhile program to go through myself and I highly recommend [it to] any young women who are willing to do it.”

The show society is holding an information session for young women aged 16 to 25 who have a passion for agriculture and regional NSW.

Ms Webster is encouraging young women from Wagga to “put their hand up and give it a shot”.

The Show Society will also be running a Junior Show Young Woman of the Year for 16-18-year-olds.

“The idea behind the junior show is that we want girls to still get the same personal development opportunities the other girls get before leaving school,” Ms Webster said.

“It is an opportunity to provide them with a leg up if they do decide to go into the senior competition in the coming years.”

The statewide competition plays a crucial role in the overall development of rural youth within NSW.

Following an entrant’s success at their local show, the young women then participate in the zone final, for a chance to progress to the Sydney Royal Easter Show competition.

The winning Young Woman of a local show society reigns for a year until the next show.

Being the Young Woman winner means being involved in your local show.

The information session will be on Saturday 30 July at 9 am at the Showground Office, Cnr Bourke Street and Urana Street, Turvey Park.

Anyone interested in attending the information session is to RSVP by Friday 29 July, here.
