Wagga man charged with Ashmont murder refused bail again

A 49-year-old Wagga man has again been refused bail following the alleged murder of another man in Ashmont.

Craig Russell Miles appeared in Wagga Local Court on Monday (15 August) where his bail was again refused following his first appearance before Wagga Bail Court on Sunday (14 August).

The case has been adjourned until October for the police to serve the brief of evidence.

Charges were laid after emergency services were called to a home in Ashmont at about 5 pm on Thursday (11 August) after receiving a concern for welfare report.

A 52-year-old man was found inside the house suffering from serious injuries. He later died at the scene.

Following inquiries, Mr Miles was located a short distance away with head injuries. He was taken to Wagga Base Hospital under a police guard.

Officers from Riverina Police District established a crime scene and commenced Strike Force Bulba in consultation with the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Following inquiries, Mr Miles was released from hospital and then arrested and taken to Wagga Police Station on Saturday (13 August). He was later charged with murder.
