Another big week of entertainment and fun family activities is in store across the Riverina.
The Committee 4 Wagga is hosting a picnic at the Botanic Gardens to welcome new residents and Bidgee’s Strawberries and Cream is throwing a festival involving eating, picking and plenty of games.
The Sydney Comedy Festival will come to the Griffith Regional Theatre on Saturday night, featuring a host of big name performers. There is also an open garden day in Narrandera and Wagga will host tribute acts to legends Joni Mitchell and Shirley Bassey.

War with Grandpa at Griffith City Library

Jane Preston Boogie Duo at The Curious Rabbit

Australia’s Queen of Boogie Piano, Jane Preston, will be performing at The Curious Rabbit this Friday. Be entertained, moved, and blown away by Jan’s new songs, re-makes of old songs, blues and new takes on traditional themes.

The Committee 4 Wagga, a group dedicated to championing positive change in the town, invites members and new residents to a family-friendly picnic at the Botanic Gardens Brolga Pond. Wagga’s Woodfired Pizza Wagon will provide food and everyone is encouraged to enjoy the entertainment, including face painting and the new playground. There will also be a “Welcome to Wagga” Wagga event for new residents.

This stage musical is a major fundraiser for the Specialist Medical Resources Foundation who provide non-Government funded medical equipment and financial support to Riverina residents in need. With lots of singing and dancing, this production can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Bidgee Strawberries and Cream Festival

Entertainment, honey tasting, trampolining, jumping castle, large yard games, a treasure hunt and entry to the strawberry picking field (when punnets are purchased) are all on offer at Saturday’s festival. All you need to bring is your own picnic blanket and chair as food and drinks will be available to be purchased from a food wagon and Sunrise Rotary Club barbecue. The farm café will sell strawberry themed desserts, ice cream, milkshakes, coffee, tea and cold drinks and strawberry picking is available at additional cost.
Official Riverina Pop-Up Shop Opening

Get down to the Official Riverina Pop-Up Opening this weekend to support a wide range of local Wagga businesses selling a variety of goodies in the lead-up to Christmas. Organiser Wendy Smith ran the event last year and over $80,000 was spent through local businesses, giving them a much-needed boost. Australian cabaret chanteuse and musical theatre star Queenie van de Zandt will perform the songs of musical legend Joni Mitchell. “Joni is my favourite singer/songwriter and I’ve been wanting to do a show about her and her music for some time,” Queenie says.
“She gave a daughter up for adoption early in her career and her music was so influenced by this experience. When I gave birth to my daughter, it felt like a perfect time to explore this mother and daughter relationship and the effect that becoming a parent has on your creativity.”
Town and country open garden day in Narrandera

A self-drive town and country open garden day is being held to raise funds for cancer charity Can Assist. It’s your chance to visit beautiful local gardens while supporting a good cause. Tickets are available from Marie Bashir Park with gardens open until 5 pm. Entry includes access to six gardens, complimentary Devonshire Tea at Uniting Church Hall and a 25 per cent discount at Shady Gum Nursery on the day (conditions apply). A light lunch will be available at Yarrum Heights. All proceeds from the day go to Narrandera Can Assist.
