New residents of Wagga are invited to an evening dedicated to welcoming new residents.

Committee 4 Wagga (C4W) is hosting the Welcome to Wagga event for residents to join the community leaders and organisations for an informative evening filled with food, beverages, entertainment and tasty treats by Wagga Wood Fired Pizzas.

The welcoming event will be held on Friday 4 November from 6 pm at The Brolga Pond at the Botanic Gardens.

C4W Chair and Region Riverina Commercial Manager Adam Drummond said the Welcome to Wagga event is a great opportunity for C4W to point new residents in the right direction or services that they might be interested in.

“Whether that be social clubs or sporting clubs, or just services that the city has to offer, places to go, the beautiful parks to see and the tourist attractions and more,” Mr Drummond said.

“[Welcome to Wagga] is a way for us to ensure that Wagga welcomes new residents with open arms.

“We reach out to some of the real estate agents in town and the Multicultural Council and ask them to send any new residents our way as it’s a great way to meet new people,” he said.

The first Welcome to Wagga event was held earlier this year and Committee for Wagga will be running the event every six months.

“We had a fantastic response from people who went to the inaugural Welcome to Wagga event,” Mr Drummond said.

“And the general feedback was that it was a beautiful event and a great opportunity to meet new people in a city that they weren’t yet completely familiar with.

“We had Glenn Pallister from Le Brooks who moved from Sydney give a speech about his experience of moving and all the connections he made as well as Region Riverina Editor Chris Roe.

The chairman said the welcoming event for new residents is important, particularly in regional Australia.

“Communities can become quite clicky there are a lot of people that have known each other in their social circles in school, and to fit in as a new resident and make that social connection is actually quite challenging.

“So I think this is a great icebreaker and it really is needed to ensure that people feel welcome when they come to Wagga.”

New residents are encouraged to register their interest here.

The welcoming event will be held on Friday 4 November from 6 pm at The Brolga Pond at the Botanic Gardens (MacLeay Street).

Temora Shire Council is hosting its next Welcoming Event – Barefoot Bowls & Cultural BBQ for new and established residents on Sunday 6 November at 3pm Temora Bowling Club.

Temora Shire Council economic and development officer Shontayne Ward the welcoming events are not just about welcoming new residents but celebrating the growing diversity of the Temora community.

“This month we are hosting a free afternoon of barefoot bowls, delicious food and fun,” Ms Ward said.

“Attendees are encouraged to bring along a plate of food to share that is traditional in their culture.

“We’ll supply the barbeque and soft drinks, and the bowls are ready to be rolled,” she said.

Ms Ward said Temora Shire wants its new residents to embrace their cultural backgrounds as it’s important for the growth of the community.

RSVP and dietary requirements for Temora’s welcoming event are to be sent to [email protected]
