A 45-year-old sergeant has been charged over alleged deception and allegedly providing a false statement to police.
Officers from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation after receiving a report about a utility allegedly being stolen from Narranderra.
The car was located by police on 9 August.
Following extensive inquiries, the officer attached to a command in the Southern Region was issued a court attendance notice for two counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and false representation, resulting in the police investigation on Thursday (27 October).
He will appear at Albury Local Court next year (5 February).
The officer’s employment status is under review.
