Police are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at Albury that burned one square kilometre of bushland over the weekend.
Police said emergency services were called to Monument Hill, off Memorial Drive, after reports of a vehicle fire at about 9:30 pm on Saturday (17 February).
When officers attached to Murray River Police District arrived at the scene, they found no vehicle, but nearby bushland was alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service officers attended and contained the fire. There were no evacuations and no damage to nearby properties.
A crime scene was established and examined by detectives.
“Detectives attended the crime and have determined the fire is suspicious,” Murray River Police District Acting Inspector Jason Irving said.
“It’s an ongoing investigation. Crime scene detectives along with Rural Fire Service investigators have conducted inquiries and have deemed the fire to be suspicious.
“We ask members of the public who may have been in the area on Saturday night with dashcam, any information, or have seen vehicles or people potentially of a suspicious nature to call Albury Police Station.”
People with information can also contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
