Wagga appears to be past the worst of the flooding with the Murrumbidgee River level falling overnight from the major flood level of 9.72 m to the moderate level of 9.56 m by Saturday morning.

NSW SES put out a statement to say that they are working with Wagga Wagga City Council to ensure the safe return of residents to North Wagga inside the levee.

There were some concerns from Council around the banks along Hampden Ave on the approach to North Wagga.

The road access was below the river level with a temporary levee of sandbags and tarps keeping the water from crossing the road and the SES is working with Council to determine a safe river level.

They will continue to provide updates as the situation changes but they are keen to support the return of North Wagga residents as soon as it is safe.

Crews have been out this morning to confirm impacts and the integrity of the levee before advising return with cautions for areas within Wagga.
