A 29-year-old man has been charged following a string of suspicious fires in the Riverina.
Police said Strike Force Zalgris was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding several suspicious fires in the Albury region in January.
Following investigations, Murray River Police District detectives stopped a white Toyota Corolla on Table Top Road, Thurgoona, about 3:30 pm on Monday (26 February). They arrested the driver at the scene.
The man was taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with four counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread, driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, and custody of a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Tuesday (27 February).
Police allege the man was involved in four suspicious fires in Table Top and Thurgoona since January 2024.
