UPDATED: Fire that sent huge plume of smoke over Wagga 'suspicious'

FRIDAY UPDATE: Riverina Police say they are treating yesterday’s fire in Blake Street as suspicious and “potentially deliberately lit”.

About 4 pm on Thursday 29 December 2022, emergency services were called to Blake Street, Wagga, following reports of a shed well alight.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze however the shed was destroyed.

The shed was unoccupied and there were no reports of injury.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District have established a crime scene and have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to call Wagga Wagga Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

THURSDAY: Wagga City is currently being covered in a huge plume of black smoke as a shed backing onto Eulong Lane near Blake Street burns.

Police officers in plain clothes and NSW RFS are currently on the scene attending to the situation.

NSW Police say the fire is now under control and there is no need for alarm.
