Riverina residents can expect to stay rugged up, with the unseasonally cold weather that hit on Friday expected to continue over the weekend and into next week.

The well-below-average temperatures being experienced in parts of NSW are due to a low-pressure system from the country’s south.

Yesterday (3 February), Wagga had its coldest February day in 18 years, recording just 10.2 degrees Celsius.

Friday’s westerly winds of 20km/h to 30km/h are also expected to continue today.

Bureau of Meteorology engagement officer Morgan Pumpa said parts of the Riverina would continue to see single-digit minimum temperatures.

“We expect sunny conditions throughout the weekend, especially on Sunday,” Ms Pumpa said.

“We will see the temperatures increasing and clearer skies to continue into the start of the new week.”

Ms Pumpa said the temperature for Wagga so far this February was about 8C below the average.

“The average high temperature in February for Wagga is 30.9C, and on Saturday, it’s going to be a top of 22C,” she said.

“From Monday, we’ll start to see temperatures more aligned with this time of year.”

Ms Pumpa said the average temperature for Griffith was about 7C below the average.

“The average high temperature in Griffith is 31.3 degrees, and over the weekend, we’ve got a top of 24C,” she said.

“The average minimum for Griffith is usually 16.4C, and over the weekend, we’ve got 8C.”
