Ashmont couple charged over Riverina crime spree

A man and woman have been charged with alleged property and fraud-related offences following an investigation in the Riverina.

Officers attached to Murray River and Riverina Police Districts have been investigating a string of recent break-and-enters, stolen cars and fraudulent transactions in the Albury and Wagga Wagga areas.

Just after 12:30 pm Sunday (23 October), officers attended a home in Swan Street, Ashmont, arresting a man and woman, and taking them to Wagga Wagga Police Station.

The man, aged 22, has been charged with:

  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Never-licenced person drive vehicle on road
  • Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception
  • Be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner, and,
  • Receive etc property stolen outside NSW.

Two outstanding warrants were also issued for alleged aggravated break and enter, stealing, and assault offences.

He was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Monday 31 October 2022.

The woman, aged 23, was charged with:

  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
  • Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, and,
  • Receive etc property stolen outside NSW.

She was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Monday 21 November 2022.

Police are continuing their inquiries.
