A woman has been arrested after allegedly keeping her dog in a locked car on a 35-degree day in Griffith.
At about 1:15 pm on 13 February, police were called to attend to the vehicle, which was parked outside a fast-food restaurant.
A witness had observed the dog, which was allegedly inside the vehicle in a distressed state. The dog could allegedly be seen panting and shaking.
A short time later, police entered the fast-food restaurant to make enquiries to locate the owner of the vehicle and dog. Officers will allege a 32-year-old woman approached police yelling at them and walked away towards the kitchen area. Police attempted to escort the woman outside the restaurant as she allegedly acted in an offensive manner.
However, the woman allegedly began resisting and fighting police attempts. As a result, police placed the woman under arrest and she was conveyed to Griffith Police Station.
After a short while, NRMA attended the carpark and allegedly opened the vehicle for police to free the dog from inside.
The woman was then charged with behaving in an offensive manner in or near a public place and committing an act of cruelty upon an animal. The woman was granted bail to attend Griffith Local Court on 2 April.
