Detectives have charged a man and woman following an alleged home invasion and shooting in the Riverina last month.
Strike Force Bettles was formed to investigate the shooting after Murrumbidgee Police District officers were called to the home on Burns Street, Hillston, about 100 km north-west of Griffith at about 2:30 am on 20 September.
Police were told a man and two women, aged 31 and 56, were in the home when three people allegedly entered, one allegedly armed with a firearm. The man was shot twice before the intruders left.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the resident at the scene before taking him to Griffith Hospital. He was airlifted to a major metropolitan hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The man remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested at a hospital in Edward Street, Wagga Wagga, at about 1:40 pm on Monday (14 October).
He was transported to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with special aggravated breaking and entering, committing a serious indictable offence – inflicting grievous bodily harm, shooting with intent to murder, and knowingly direct activities of a criminal group.
The man appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court the following day (15 October) and his bail was formally refused.
Following further inquiries, a 25-year-old woman was arrested after a vehicle stop in Griffith at about 2:25 pm on Wednesday (16 October).
She was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with concealing a serious indictable offence.
The woman was refused bail and appeared the following day (17 October 2024) at Griffith Local Court where she was granted conditional bail. She will reappear at the same court on 23 October.
The 22-year-old man is set to appear before Griffith Local Court on 12 December.
