A 33-year-old man who recently converted his overseas driver’s licence to a NSW permit had it suspended for six months after allegedly clocking more than 45 km/h over the speed limit.

Police said Griffith Highway Patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement when they detected a gold BMW X3 travelling at 167 km/h in the signposted 100 km/h zone on Kidman Way, Goolgowi, at 1:36 pm on 21 August.

When the highway patrol officers stopped the vehicle, the driver from Hillston asked: “The speed limit is only 100?”

The driver was issued with his NSW licence 18 days earlier after converting his overseas version.

He was issued with an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h, and his NSW licence was immediately seized and suspended for six months.

Vehicle sanctions were applied, and the car’s registration plates were confiscated and returned to Transport of NSW for three months.
