Temora Shire Council has secured more than $200,000 in funding from the State Government to deliver community events.

Temora received $239,651 as part of the Government’s $25 million Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program.

Temora Mayor Rick Firman said he was grateful for and pleased to have received the grant.

“We are grateful to Minister Cooke (Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke) and the Government for helping out rural communities with this funding,” Mayor Firman said.

“They’ve acknowledged we’ve missed out on a heck of a lot during that wretched COVID period.

“It means a great deal and I know it will mean a lot to the community.”

Cr Firman said after COVID it was crucial for the community to have such support as there were fundraising opportunities for organisations to host and for people to get out and about.

He said Temora Shire was delighted to be showcasing a diverse range of events for everyone in the region to enjoy.

“The community will look forward to sporting days, art exhibitions, community fairs and art workshops. You name it, it will be on in Temora,” he said.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the funding would help the council deliver a range of events that would bring the community together to reconnect.

“The planned events are a terrific opportunity to promote greater social cohesion as well as provide an economic boost locally following the COVID-19 lockdowns,” Ms Cooke said.

A total of eight events will be on offer by local community groups, and the shire council will run a further 11 events later in the year.

The first event is the T-Light at Lake Centenary, on Saturday, 27 August.
