UPDATE October 2, 9 am: Yesterday (1 October), at around 8 am, Sturt Mall Centre Management were notified of a burst water pipe within the building’s ceiling structure.
“While the ceiling remained intact, the centre was evacuated as a precaution,” said Kate Leverett, marketing manager at Knight Frank, which manages the building.
“Following WorkSafe’s recommendations, the affected area was thoroughly investigated and assessed. The issue was confined to a small section near the Food Court, which will be cordoned off and remain closed to customers for repairs.
“We are pleased to announce that the rest of the centre will reopen for normal trading today (2 October). We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.”
October 1, 12:30 pm: Wagga Wagga’s Sturt Mall has been closed indefinitely following a burst water pipe early this morning.
The centre was evacuated and closed after a water main burst in the ceiling near Sushia on Tuesday (1 October).
“The water main burst in the ceiling and it all came out near the sushi place,” said Muffin Break owner Natalie Prestia. “At about 7:30 am, they noticed leaking water gushing.
“[Sturt Mall] has closed us down because they can’t guarantee the structural integrity of the ceiling. The whole mall has been closed.
“Have to wait and see what type of damage it is and how long it takes to repair.”
Sturt Mall Wagga Wagga posted on Facebook around 8:30 am: “As a result of a burst water pipe, the centre’s evacuation alarm has been activated.”
“We appreciate your understanding and will provide updates as soon as possible on the status of the centre reopening.”

“While the ceiling remains intact, as a precaution, the centre was evacuated,” Kimberley said.
“We are adhering to recommendations from WorkSafe that the centre must remain closed until further investigations can occur.”
