Wagga Wagga City Council has announced it is inviting applications for its major events funding program.

Acting destination and event coordinator Kim Parker said the council was excited to launch the Major Events, Festival and Film Sponsorship funding program for 2023-24.

“Our Major Events, Festival and Film Sponsorship program is an opportunity for local event organisers to apply for funding through council,” Ms Parker said.

“We have streams available from $3000 to $20,000 and we have about $100,000 available all year around.”

The funding program supports organisers to deliver major events in the city to ensure a vibrant calendar is developed for the community and visitors to enjoy year-round.

Funding is available for events to be held between 1 July, 2023 and 30 June, 2024.

Ms Parker said it was important to support local event organisers.

“It gives them [organisers] the additional boost to bring these events to life,” she said.

“It also assists with their programming and/or event marketing activities to attract people from out in the city as well as visitors throughout the years.”

Events officer Emma Corbett said the council was keen to support innovative and creative events that delivered strong social benefits and economic returns for the city.

“This funding recognises the importance of events and festivals in driving visitation to our Wagga Wagga and surrounding region, as well as showcasing our public spaces and enlivening our city,” Ms Corbett said.

The funding has previously supported successful projects such as the Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras, Gears & Beers, Motor Mania, and locally produced film The Merger.

Funding covers three types of events: incubator events; developing events; and flagship events catering to the different growth and development stages an event progresses through.
