Riverina man in a critical condition following alleged assault

A man has been charged over an alleged assault in Yanco that left two men injured, one critically.

At about 8:15 pm on Saturday (23 April), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District were called to a residence on Cudgel Street in Yanco following reports two men had allegedly been assaulted.

On arrival, police found a 36-year-old man and a 55-year-old man with several injuries to their heads, arms, and legs.

The two men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Griffith Hospital; however the 36-year-old man was later taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.

Police then commenced an investigation into the incident and, following extensive inquiries, a 30-year-old man was arrested at about 6:20 pm Sunday (23 April), in Leeton and taken to Leeton Police Station.

The man was charged with several assault charges including reckless wounding.

He was refused bail to appear in Griffith Local Court on Monday and was then refused bail to appear again on Thursday 6 May 2023.
