A Riverina man will face court early next year after being charged with animal cruelty offences.
At about 12:40 pm on Thursday (6 November), police were called to Headons Lane in Hay following reports of an incident involving several dogs.
Murrumbidgee Police officers arrived on the scene and allegedly found five dogs locked inside a trailer and two dogs chained to a tree, with little food or water.
The owner was not located at the property and could not be reached. The dogs were fed, given water and unchained.
At about 11:30 am on Sunday (9 November), officers returned to the property with a Hay Shire Council ranger and seized the seven dogs.
The owner – a 70-year-old man – was charged with committing an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal and failure to provide proper and sufficient food to an animal.
He was handed a court attendance notice to appear at Hay Local Court on Monday 2 February 2026.
