Riverina Conservatorium of Music (RCM) and the Luxe Dance Studio are inviting everyone to a night of great live music and dancing.

The Spring Swing will feature live music by the twenty-piece RCM Big Band and dance lessons by Luxe, where people have the opportunity to learn to dance to Latin, jazz, swing and more.

The Spring Swing will be held at the Wagga Public School Hall on Saturday, 10 September, from 7 pm to 11:30 pm.

RCM head of woodwind and brass and RCM band conductor Tamara Spencer, the mastermind behind the Spring Swing, had the vision to combine swing music, big band music and dancing.

Ms Spencer said she had started taking dance lessons last year and the RCM staff took part in dance lessons as a form of a team-building exercise with the dance studio.

“So how often do you get to take a swing dancing class to a live band?,” Ms Spencer said.

“People can come along even if they’ve never danced before.

“The Luxe Dance Studio is offering an introductory dance lesson at the beginning of the evening.”

Ms Spencer said the dance studio will demonstrate short dance moves throughout the night, and people can test out their moves while the band is playing in the background.

“People can learn different styles of dance throughout the night,” she said.

Ms Spencer said the best-dressed couple on the night will have a chance to win prizes. Dressing up is optional.

Ms Spencer said that when she first started taking swing dance lessons years ago, people had said other towns had ‘swicnic’.

“It’s where people show up to a picnic in the park where someone would bring a speaker, and everyone would do some dancing in the park,” Ms Spencer said.

“I thought, we’ve got this big band and people who want to dance … so let’s do it.”

She said the event is open to all.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or if you have never danced before but like to give it a crack … this is their opportunity,” Ms Spencer said.

Tickets for the Spring Swing will be available at the door.
Door entry prices are $10 per person and $30 for a family. Cash and EFTPOS facilities will be available at the venue.
