A 21-year-old driver had his licence suspended for six months after he allegedly exceeded the speed limit by 90 km/h and accrued 14 demerit points over the long weekend.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said Albury Highway Patrol detected a silver Holden Commodore being driven on the Olympic Highway, Gerogery, by a Provisional I licence holder travelling at 180 km/h about 8:30 am on Saturday, 5 October.
“After stopping the vehicle, police discovered the driver was not displaying P plates and the vehicle was in poor condition,” a Traffic and Highway Patrol Command spokesperson said.
The driver was issued with infringement notices for P1 licence holders exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km/h, not displaying P plates and using a vehicle not complying with standards.
He was fined $3415 and accrued 14 demerit points because of the double demerit points period. His licence was suspended for six months and he received a defect notice for his car.
P1 licence holders are subject to a maximum speed of 90 km/h.
