Police are investigating the circumstances behind a crash that led to a driver taking himself to Harden Fire Station for help.
Emergency services were called to the Albury Street station at about 7:30 pm on Wednesday (5 October) where a 51-year-old man had turned up with a head injury.
He lost consciousness and firefighters had to perform CPR until paramedics arrived.
The man was flown to Canberra Hospital with serious head injuries. He was in a serious but stable condition.
An investigation has since been launched by police.
It’s believed the man’s SUV was involved in a crash sometime between 6:45 pm and 7:30 pm on the Burley Griffin Highway at Galong, about a 10-minute drive from the fire station.
The Kia SUV was found with front-end damage and the airbags deployed at the intersection of Albury and Station streets in Harden.
Police have appealed for anyone who may have information about how the vehicle was damaged, or relevant dashcam footage, to contact Yass Police on 6226 9399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information could be provided anonymously.
