A man arrested for alleged fraud and stock offences last year will now also face coercive control charges as a result of an ongoing rural crime investigation.
The Rural Crime Prevention Team established Strike Force Brighton more than two years ago to investigate allegations of fraud and stock theft.
Following investigations, a 50-year-old man was charged with fraud and stock offences, matters which are subject to ongoing court proceedings and yet to be finalised.
Following further investigation, on 16 October 2025, the man was charged with stalking or intimidating with the intention to cause fear or physical harm, common assault (domestic violence) and stalking and intimidation with the intention to cause fear or physical harm (domestic).
He was refused police bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 5 on Friday 17 October 2025, where he was granted conditional bail.
Following legal advice, at about 2 pm last Thursday (19 February), the man was charged with intending to undertake abusive behaviour and coerce/control an intimate partner.
Coercive control is a relatively new crime in NSW, first made an offence in July 2024. It is defined as repeated patterns of physical or non-physical abuse intended to control someone.
The 50-year-old man’s next appearance is in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Thursday 19 September 2026.
