A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a senior constable with a scooter in the Riverina.
Police said two officers responded to reports of an alleged robbery on David Street, Albury, at about 10:35 pm on Saturday 31 August.
While responding, the officers spotted two males walking north along McCauley Street, North Albury.
The officers asked the two males to stop. However, they kept walking, police allege.
When the senior constable approached the males, one male allegedly swung a scooter and hit the senior constable in the head, before the two males allegedly fled.
Police allege the senior constable chased the men for a short time, before stopping due to his injuries. His colleague assisted until NSW Ambulance arrived.
NSW Ambulance treated the 35-year-old officer for two wounds to his head which required stitches. He was taken to Albury Hospital for treatment. He has since returned to work.
Following inquiries, officers arrested a 30-year-old man at a unit in Moore Street, Lavington at about 6:15 pm on Friday 20 September.
During a search of the unit, police located and seized allegedly stolen prescription medication.
The 30-year-old was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with 18 offences including wounding a police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm, robbery, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, goods suspected stolen in/on premises (not motor vehicle), entering enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, and 14 counts of intentionally marking premises without consent.
He appeared at Albury Local Court on 23 September where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on 19 November.
