Man shot at Charles Sturt campus oval over the weekend

Inquiries are underway after a Wagga man sustained a leg injury, possibly from a slug gun.

The 47-year-old man presented himself to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, where he was treated for a small gunshot wound to the calf yesterday (11 December).

He told police he was at a Charles Sturt University sports oval at the corner of Valder Way and Jingellic Place, Wagga Wagga, at about 2 pm when the incident occurred.

Officers attached to the Riverina Police District were contacted at about 4 pm and have begun inquiries into the incident.

Charles Sturt University said in a statement it was assisting police with their investigation.

“The safety of students, staff and the community remain the university’s priority,” a university spokesperson said.
