Man in Griffith allegedly tried to grab hold of police officer's taser while resisting arrest

A man in Griffith has been charged with resisting arrest after allegedly trying to grab hold of an officer’s taser during a struggle with police.

District Inspector Glenn Smith informed Region the incident began at around 6:37 pm on Saturday (5 April).

Police were conducting patrols along Watson Road when they observed the 34-year-old man walking on Goolgumbla Circuit.

Police were aware the man had an outstanding arrest warrant. Police stopped their vehicle to approach the man and he allegedly ran away, jumping fences into the rear yards of nearby houses.

An officer caught up with the man in a rear yard and took hold of the man and instructed him to get onto the ground.

The man allegedly refused and a struggle ensued.

A short time later, an additional officer arrived at the location and assisted with the struggle, during which the man attempted to grab hold of an officer’s taser.

The man was eventually handcuffed and taken back to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of their duty and for the outstanding warrant.
