Man faces court on string of charges after police pursuit near Griffith

A man has faced court charged with multiple offences following a police pursuit of an allegedly stolen car south of Griffith.

Police said Murrumbidgee Police District officers began pursuing the car along North Kooba Settlers Road, Kooba, after it failed to stop at about 12:15 pm on Tuesday (16 July).

The pursuit was terminated shortly before being re-started at Irrigation Way, Whitton.

The car crossed Burley Griffin Way and travelled along an unsealed road before a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman fled on foot.

The woman was arrested a short time later. After a search of the area, the man was found hiding in a farm shed and arrested.

During a search of the car, police allegedly located ammunition of various calibres.

The alleged offenders were taken to Griffith Police Station.

The man was charged with police pursuit, driving recklessly, stealing a motor vehicle, possessing ammunition without holding a licence, entering a dwelling with intent to steal, break and entering and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit.

He was refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court on 24 July.

The woman was charged with being a passenger in a stolen vehicle, having goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and possessing prohibited drugs.

She was granted bail to appear at Griffith Local Court on 7 August.
