A man has been charged following an alleged police pursuit while holding a woman against her will inside the vehicle last Friday (21 June).
Police said Murray River District officers attempted to stop the driver of a utility vehicle at a petrol station in Jindera about 11 am.
When the vehicle allegedly rammed a police vehicle and failed to stop, officers pursued it.
They followed the ute along Urana Road towards Albury, where road spikes were used and the vehicle was immobilised.
When police approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly held a 31-year-old woman against her will inside the vehicle while armed with a knife.
Police negotiated with the man, and the woman was released without injury.
The man was arrested without further incident at about 4:30 pm, with the assistance of specialist police officers.
He was taken to Albury police station, where three outstanding warrants were executed, and the man was charged with multiple offences, including predatory driving, stalking/intimidating, intending fear of physical harm, police pursuit not stopping, driving recklessly/furiously, driving a motor vehicle during the disqualification period, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Saturday (22 June).
