A man was scheduled to face Griffith court on Thursday (10 July) over an alleged shooting in Hillston and a separate incident of animal cruelty.
Duncan John Griffith, 26, who resides in the small town of Murrin Bridge near Lake Cargelligo, had both matters adjourned to a later date.
According to court documents, he was accused of shooting a person with the intent to murder in the early hours of Friday 20 September 2024. The victim allegedly received injuries that amounted to grievous bodily harm.
Mr Griffith has also been charged with beating a Staffordshire bull terrier named Pippa with a metal pipe, causing its death, in a separate incident alleged to have occurred in Murrin Bridge on the afternoon of Friday 6 September 2024. He was also accused of stalking or intimidating two people on the same date.
Mr Griffith is presently in custody. He did not apply for bail and bail was refused.
At a court hearing on Thursday, his Sydney-based lawyer Sophie Toomey appeared on video link and sought an adjournment of the matter so she could speak to her client and take instructions. Mr Griffith did not appear in court.
She said it was a “very serious” matter that had been returned to police and that she had not been provided with a charge certificate, which she requested.
The animal cruelty and stalking charges were delayed two weeks and set down for a hearing on Thursday 24 July. The alleged shooting matter was delayed for a hearing on Thursday 18 September.
