The long-awaited upgrade of two of Wagga’s busiest roads and roundabouts is now complete.

Wagga City Council made final touches to Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street with line making applied to the roads last week (Friday 8 July).

Dobney Avenue and Pearson Street are two of the busiest roads in the city’s sub-arterial network.

Wagga City Council director of infrastructure service Warren Faulkner hopes the community will be happy with the results.

“We thank motorists and local businesses for their patience while the work was being carried out,” he said.

Mr Faulkner said he is happy to see another project completed.

“I have no doubt that this project has had the most notable improvement in ride quality for motorists of all the projects we have done over the last 12 months and it is an outcome that has been long overdue.

“The roads now have a thicker stronger base course to cater for Higher Mass Loading Limits.

“This is important as there is a lot of commercial vehicle movement along these routes and within this precinct,” Mr Faulkner said.

The upgrade covers the stretch of Pearson Street and Dobney Avenue from Sturt Highway, a total of 1.4 kilometres of road.

The upgrade also includes the two roundabouts adjacent to Bunnings.

The existing surface of the road was reshaped to improve road users’ safety and ride quality.

The rehabilitation of both the roads and roundabouts included the milling out of the existing pavement, putting in a thick layer of asphalt pavement and overlaying a continuous asphaltic concrete wearing layer.

The upgrade of the roads had only taken place at night to minimise inconvenience to the adjoining businesses and motorists.

The director of infrastructure service congratulated Council contracts Fulton Hogan work who despite the wet weather managed to complete the rehabilitation project over 34 nightshifts.

The project was funded by the Australian Government in association with the NSW Government and Wagga City Council.
