A Griffith man has been charged for allegedly detonating a firework in front of police officers and paramedics.

District Inspector Glenn Smith informed Region the alleged incident occurred at 4:30 am on Sunday (12 January), while police attended an address on Clifton Boulevard for an unrelated matter.

“Whilst at the location, police were greeted by a 63-year-old Griffith man,” Inspector Smith said.

“Whilst speaking with the man, he informed police that he had something to show them. The man walked into his unit, which was located in a neighbouring unit. A short time later, police will allege the man walked out of his unit holding a red firework, approximately 10 centimetres in length. The man immediately lit the firework and threw it into a small open courtyard where it detonated, causing a loud bang.”
