A family-run Griffith company that designs, supplies and installs spray irrigation systems has won a major international award which recognises them as world leaders in their field.

Flow Smart Pty Ltd is the only Riverina supplier of the North American-based multinational Lindsay Corporation’s Zimmatic irrigation systems, which are sold by 400 dealerships across 90 countries.

At a recent convention in the Bahamas, the Griffith company’s owners – married couple Bryce and Cate Yates – won Lindsay’s dealership award for the Asia Pacific for 2023, finishing ahead of all other suppliers across Australia, New Zealand and several Asian countries.

“We are proud to recognise the team from Flow Smart for this outstanding achievement,” Lindsay Corporation’s global agricultural irrigation president Gustavo Oberto said.

“They are dedicated to providing their customers with game-changing innovations that improve operational efficiency, boost productivity and reduce input costs. Their commitment to customer service is second to none.”

The Yates opened the business in 2005, with Bryce’s background in irrigation complementing Cate’s skills in accountancy. Bryce said they chose the right place to do business.

“One of the amazing things about the Riverina is the work ethic of our team and our staff, it is second to none,” he said.

“[The award] was a team effort. It was based on our sales, customer relations and commitment to the brand.

“Our strength is that we have a solutions-based approach, we are all about relationships with client … if the clients can’t grow then we can’t grow.”

While Flow Smart have experienced three major droughts during their 18 years of operation, Bryce said dry periods had actually had a positive impact.

“Droughts have actually strengthened our business,” Bryce said. “It’s when every drop of water increases in value exponentially, and the awareness on who you are partnering with is paramount.”

Cate said she was pleasantly surprised to win the Asia Pacific gong.

“The award is recognition of our team’s hard work to our clients’ businesses over many years, and we are thrilled to bring global recognition back and share it with our regionally based team,” she said.

“Winning the award has great meaning for our team who represent the partnership between Flow Smart as a premium dealer and Lindsay’s flagship Zimmatic brand. Lindsay is a unique corporate that proudly supports its strong dealer network of predominately family owned and operated dealers across the world. This is unique and creates opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing for all dealers. A key focus on our organisation is on continuous training for all levels of staff and with Lindsay’s support this has included training visits to the US, New Zealand and Canada.”

The win marked the first time the award had been presented to a dealer outside of the US.
